When I was writing WESTVILLE, it played over and over in my head on the daily as a season of TV. I thought about it in episodes. (It’s probably a good indicator that I should just go ahead and write the screenplay already…)
Instead, I’m doing something I am equally excited about.
As a shared in the newsletter a couple weeks ago, (check it out HERE for the full skinny) WESTVILLE Book 1 ‘Welcome To Westville’ will be re-serialized right here on Substack starting May 8th.
3 - 5 chapters will be dropping every Monday and Friday.
This will roll right into Book 2 ‘Shadows Of Westville’, which released last October, and it will be ‘re-broadcast’ here as well.
It’s a throwback to a time when you still had to read an actual paper magazine publication or check your newspaper for the times your favorite shows would air, if you wanted to catch new episodes or ones you missed. I for one, think there is something we do miss now that we have full on demand access to just about every form of media you can think of.
This is part grand experiment in rekindling just a little bit of that 90s magic, and part a build up the definitive cuts of these stories (which is what will be serialized here) culminating in a new Kickstarter launch this fall for the ultimate ‘Scanline Editions’ of the novels, featuring new Christoper Pike / Goosebumps inspired cover variants with CRT screen glitch FX.
(These will be available in hardcover, paperback, and special vintage mass-market paperback versions, as well as other stretch goals)
So, if you’ll step back into the mid-90s with me once more to a little town called Westville, MI you just might find something you missed. Or something you remembered, from a time and place you never were actually in.
I’ll see you there.
- Ryder
